Mistaya Engineering

At Mistaya Engineering, we develop software and provide consulting services to help engineers develop renewable energy projects. Analyzing these projects involves processing large amounts of data to understand how power systems will operate given the available resource. We specialize in developing software that minimizes computer processing requirements, performs useful statistical calculations, and displays large amounts of data in attractive, easy-to-read graphs and tables that are suitable for use in presentations and reports. We provide consulting services based on our knowledge of this software and on our experience designing small power systems.

Windographer

We designed our flagship product Windographer especially for wind resource analysts who work with data generated by wind measurement equipment. Our early work with colleagues in the wind industry suggested that there was a need for a computer program that could quickly read wind resource data files created by other computer programs and data loggers, sort out the different types of data in the file, and display it so that analysts could evaluate both the quality of the data and the quality of the wind resource. We worked with our colleagues to identify other useful features, and as a result, developed Windographer in its current form, which not only reads and displays data, but provides tools for calculating statistical properties of the data and identifying potential problems in the data caused by malfunctioning equipment, tower shading, or sensor icing.

HOMER

We also developed HOMER, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory"s micropower optimization model using the same principles. HOMER models off-grid and grid-connected power systems and quickly performs thousands of calculations to help design engineers choose system designs that meet project energy requirements while minimizing life cycle cost.
